CLIENT: Rotary Club of Nashville
Working with the Nashville Downtown Rotary club Hodgson and Douglas produced a renovation master plan for Watkins Park the first public park in Nashville. The park is in the middle of an urban neighborhood with a magnet school at one end of the park. The plan called for relocating parking, developing a new community space for use by the school, new pathways in the park, a community garden and renovated athletic fields. The park fronts Jefferson St. and a central feature of the park was the renovation of the existing Jefferson St. walk into a broad promenade with new benches, lighting, plantings and stone wall. This first phase of construction was undertaken as a joint venture of City agencies, the Rotary Club and neighborhood volunteers.
